After the first round of this year’s spring growth, something terrible started to happen to several of my plants. Something terrible that may have been the April cold snaps we got in Austin, or some kind of fungus or mildew. I’m leaning toward fungus or mildew though, and have treated the surviving plants thoroughly with a spray. I also re-potted them in a rockier soil, something made specially for bonsai, and gave them a good watering of a 10-10-10 fertilizer. But I am not sure this will do the trick. These planties are gunna die!
My fukien tea bit the bullet (died) and I believe the azalea that K gave me for Valentine’s Day (it’s a little stick of a guy, the kind flowers.com sells, that I’ve cut back to a twig) is on the same path. I have a juniper that is slowly turning brown (see the picture above), but underneath the bark is still green, so I have a bit of hope for it. I’m scared for it though! However, my crepe myrtle has already put out some new growth and I’m hoping it will pull through. If there was ever a time that I would secretly pray for something stupid and selfish it would be now!
Will these little bitties survive through the summer? ONLY TIME WILL TELL.
